GPA BooksYour GPA is the deciding factor for your career and educational future. You are investing thousands of dollars in your education, you might as well be successful. Here is a list of tips and strategies, which will enable you to excel in your college studies and improve your GPA:

  1. Choose your courses carefully - Scope out teachers for every class you sign up to by going to Rate my Professor.
  2. Attend all your classes - do not sign up to any course with class earliar then 9 am. You are more likely to skip 8am class and sleep in.
  3. Sit towards the front of the class - lectures become more engaging.
  4. Go to all your tutorials: most of the answers to your assignments will be revealed to you during these sessions.
  5. Surround yourself with motivated students - find hard working students in your class and befriend them.
  6. Elective courses should boost your GPA - so select the ones with light course loads.
  7. Take notes - teachers usually hand out bare bone notes, which hold back most of the important information. Taking notes during class attendance will help you fill the voids.
  8. Review your notes - take 30 minutes after your class to review notes and highlight important sentences and concepts.
  9. Read the textbook - many college students avoid buying textbooks for many classes but end up with lousy marks on the tests. Ask your teacher if he plans to use the textbook extensively. Try to read the assigned pages before your class. Highlight and annotate everything you read.
  10. Past Midterms and Finals - you can get your hands on your teacher’s past examination by going to the library or simply asking him. Examine if the teacher picks the questions from the notes, lecture, or textbook. This will help you properly study for the exam, and enable you to allocate your time appropriately.
  11. Midterm preparation - the night before the midterm, go to bed early and try to get good 8 hours of sleep. Wake up early next morning and revise all your notes before the exam.
  12. Learn from your mistakes - after the midterm, you should examine the questions and learn from your mistakes.
  13. Last minute studying DOES NOT WORK!

Discipline and a following a schedule will spread out the load and make college life less stressful.
