Funding for Education

After scrambling to complete my taxes, I kept asking myself how Uncle Sam partitioned the 2007 tax haul, estimated at $2,072,116,000,000. Then I stumbled onto a website called the National Priorities Project (NPP), which illustrates tax dollar allocation with easy to read charts.
The NPP report reveals how the income tax dollars from a median income family are being spent across states, cities, towns and counties. The shocking truth is that over 40 cents of every dollar goes towards military spending, while around 4 cents of federal tax dollar goes toward education. Investment in environment, energy and science is roughly 2.5 cents, and military debt encompasses 10 cents of every federal tax dollar.
Hopefully we will see a larger investment in education sometime in the future.
