Stephen Colbert at Princeton University
June 8, 2008 – 1:39 pm by Nick
Stephen Colbert, host of the hugely popular program “The Colbert Report,” gave an unorthodox Class Day speech for Princeton University graduates. He urged the Class of 2008 to “leave the world alone.” He also received an honorary doctorate.
Colbert remained in character for the entirety of the speech. He skipped onto the stage to chants of “U.S.A..” He reminded the crowd of his botched presidential run and ridiculed the school’s signature orange and black class jackets to an uproar of laughter.
”I don’t mean to come here yelling at you, but frankly I’m a little scared of you. … You people are go-getters,” Mr. Colbert said. “All the practical thinkers told you to change the world. Gandhi said, ‘You must be the change you wish to see in the world,’ but may I remind you that he drank his own urine.”
The real Stephen Colbert was deeply honored by the Princeton University’s and loved the jackets.
