Middleton Police use excessive force on Wesleyan University Students

May 19, 2008 – 11:33 am by Nick

Wesleyan UniversityMiddleton Police are accused of using a end-of-the-year at Wesleyan University. The police was contacted to break up a crowd of 200 students. The officers misguidedly used mace, pepper spray and tasers on the crowd.

Police reports state that some students started throwing bottles and cans at officers. The whole affair has left the town reeling.

“They were told several times to move along, they refused,” said Middletown Police Sgt. Scott Aresco.

The police mismanaged the situation, and became the catalyst that led to students acting out. They should have waited until school or public property was being vandalized to step up the force and break up the crowd. The crowd had no intent to riot initially.

Youtube videos of college security guards and police officers tasering students has polarized many student bodies across the country.
