University of Oakland Freshman Elected Mayor of Town

Muskogee, a city of 38,000 inhabitants, elected a 19-year-old freshman at the University of Oklahoma. captured 70% of the vote to win the position.
“The public placing their trust in me is the greatest, humbling and most awesome experience I’ve ever had in my life,” said Hammons. He expects to continue with his studies even after being sworn in next week. He plans to transfer to a university closer to the town and manage his school schedule appropriately.
The freshman will sit at the chair of a nine-member city council. He ran on a platform of government transparency and better access to information about city operations. Hammons also utilized the Internet by offering mailing lists and videos on his website, Hammonsformayor.com.
