Coed College Dorm Rooms

Many parents are shocked to learn thatĀ colleges no longer require separate dorm rooms for males and females. Coed dorm are inĀ staunch contrast to the college dorms, experienced by Baby Boomer parents .
Students and schools have stated that the request stem from a need for comfortable rooming, rather than sex.
Over a dozen universities, including Brown University, the University of Pennsylvania, Oberlin College, Clark University and the California Institute of Technology, extend the option to their students. National Student Genderblind Campaign was created to promote gender-neutral housing.
Even though, coed rooms have been offered for several years in many universities, very few students take advantage of the option. Many students state bunking with a person from the opposite (friends or roomate couple) would create too many distraction to an already time constrained academic life.
